Wingback Chair
I have been working on this chair for a few weeks. The chair itself was not too bad, but the cushion.......that's another story. This was my first attempt to fabricate a new cushion, foam and all. I thought i had it all figured out. I just traced the old fabric as a pattern for my new fabric, measured the side-piece, and sewed it all together. It took me approximately 5 hrs to do that, my minimal sewing experience from back in Jr. High was just barely enough to manage, but it worked. I was so happy and proud of my new cushion! I went upstairs to put it in the chair, so I could admire my handywork. Much to my dismay, it was too small. It looked very bad sitting in a beautiful chair. I was pretty upset, all that work, time, and frustration (trying to remember/relearn how to sew). Not to mention, the zipper looked terrible. So, I had to throw that one to the wind, and start all over again. I went to the store and bought more fabric at $17.99/yd, yeah I know, expensive mistake. This time, I cut the cushion to fit the chair first, leaving appr. 1/2" all the way around for dakron. Then I traced my pattern off of it. I also learned a few tricks on sewing the zipper. I also sewed the top and side pieces, then placed it over the cushion to make sure it fit before sewing the bottom on. This one only took me about 3 1/2 hrs, much improvement from the first time. This one turned out great! Its sitting in our bedroom now as a reading chair.
New piece
Once again, (as normal), I got too excited to bite into this that I did not take a pic. This is an old Magnavox Cabinet Stereo with Record Player. Stereo actually still works. I am going to gut it, put some shelves in it, take the front panels out and make them doors and use it as my home entertainment center to house all my stuff. I'm gonna try to keep the stereo in it and functional if possible. Check out the size of the Subs that were put in this thing, 15" if they only knew how to push wattage back then. Maybe Kelly will let me spend some money and upgrade those and add a little more wattage. A man's allowed to dream, right?
